Ban of Roadside Selling: Views and Concerns (Video)

The Lagos state government announced the implementation of the Street trading/hawking ban effective from July 1, 2016. This short documentary film by “The Optimists” about the ban of hawking and road side selling in Lagos aims beyond mere rhetoric and debates; and beyond the wordings of the law and the high price of dissent, to take a deeper look at the social-economic causation of hawking and the broader effect of the ban on those affected the most, highlighting their struggles and hope.

The enlightening film shows the hawkers and roadside seller’s candid view and fears as well as their concern and struggles as it tries to elevate the discuss by giving the debate a human face and providing a voice to the unheard, yet most important individuals in the situation, and whose livelihood is most threatened by the ban.
